      What does this do that my current alarm does not?

      A sealed unit holds its tongue until the gas is around 70 PPM, and even then it is permitted a delay of several hours. Two states, nothing in between: silence, or panic. Ours prints the live figure from 0 PPM upward, so a fault shows itself on the way up. It also settles the other question - a moving figure is the sensing element proving it is awake.

      Where should it go, and how high?

      Any ordinary socket, ideally at eye level or a touch higher. Height is not critical - the gas distributes itself evenly - but the digits have to fall where your eyes already go. Cover one storey at a time, add one outside the bedroom corridor and one within sight of the furnace or range. Avoid the counter beside the burners, and avoid bathrooms.

      How many do I need?

      Count the storeys, then add the bedroom corridor and whatever burns fuel. Two floors over a basement furnace generally lands on four units. A flat is usually well served by two.

      Will it go off while I am cooking?

      It will not. Smoke and steam are invisible to this sensor; it is looking for carbon monoxide and for gas. Sear a steak, run a hot shower - nothing happens. And when the figure does shift, you watch it climb and settle, so you learn what your house does rather than being jolted by a siren.

      Is there any way to tell the sensor is still alive?

      This is exactly why we put a display on it. On a sealed alarm the test button proves the buzzer works and nothing more. A figure that updates is the sensing element reporting for duty, morning after morning.

      And if it turns out not to suit the house?

      You get 100 nights to find out. Unhappy for any reason, or none at all - post it back and the full amount returns to your card, postage on our account.

      Can I use one in a rental or an RV?

      Yes to both. An ordinary socket is all it wants - nothing drilled, nothing wired in, no permission to request from a landlord.
